As the momentum builds behind Vice President Kamala Harris potentially becoming the Democratic Party's 2024 presidential nominee, the focus now shifts to when the Democratic National Committee (DNC) will formally nominate her.
The DNC's Rules Committee is set to convene on Wednesday afternoon to finalize the timetable for the presidential nomination roll call. In a statement released on Monday, the committee emphasized its commitment to conducting the nomination process in a manner that is transparent, fair, and orderly, especially with President Biden not seeking re-election.
The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday and will be livestreamed on the DNC's Youtube page, allowing the public to follow the proceedings. The decision to expedite the virtual nomination of Biden ahead of the in-person convention, starting on August 19 in Chicago, was prompted by a ballot-access issue in Ohio that has since been resolved.
Previously, the DNC had indicated that the roll call would not occur before August 1, a timeline that appears to remain in place according to a source familiar with the Rules Committee's deliberations.
