The Democratic National Committee has made payments to law firms that represented President Joe Biden in the special counsel probe into his handling of classified documents, according to federal records. Since July, the DNC has paid $1.05 million to the professional limited liability company of Biden's personal attorney, Bob Bauer, who represented Biden in the probe led by Special Counsel Robert Hur.
In addition to Bauer's firm, the DNC has also paid nearly $905,000 to Hemenway & Barnes since the beginning of 2023. Jennifer Miller, an attorney from Hemenway & Barnes, was identified in Hur's final report as a 'personal counsel' for the president. While the DNC has been paying the firm for legal services since 2020, the payments increased significantly last year.
Notably, the payments made by the Democratic Party to lawyers representing Biden do not come close to the substantial amounts of donors' money that former President Donald Trump's political operation has directed towards his legal expenses in recent years.
It is worth mentioning that President Biden's aides have criticized Trump for using donors' funds to cover his legal fees. However, the DNC's payments to Bauer and Hemenway & Barnes have not drawn the same level of scrutiny.
As of now, neither Bob Bauer nor his spokesperson, nor Jennifer Miller and others at Hemenway & Barnes, have responded to inquiries from the source regarding these payments.
