DMK attempted to stall local bodies indirect elections in many districts, says Sasikala

The sidelined former interim general secretary of the AIADMK, V.K. Sasikala, on Saturday alleged that the ruling DMK had attempted to stall the day’s indirect elections for different posts of urban local bodies in many districts.

In a statement, she complained that the ruling party was seeking to have the poll process disrupted in Coimbatore, Madurai, Tenkasi and Karur districts, which was “condemnable.” She called upon the police to ensure that the election process was completed smoothly.

In a series of tweets, the AMMK general secretary, T.T.V. Dhinakaran, criticised the State government for curbing the power of chiefs of cooperative societies with regard to the issue of cheques. He wondered why the ruling party, which had been making demands about the autonomy of States, was trying to run the cooperative societies through officers.
