Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte could make a final decision on the short-term future of Nottingham Forest promotion hero Djed Spence after working with him over the World Cup break.
The wing-back was a key player in the Reds’ charge towards the Premier League last season when he was on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough. Forest were keen to make the deal permanent in the summer, as they prepared for the Premier League, but the player instead completed a move to Tottenham.
The 22-year-old signed a five-year deal with the North London club, but has found game time hard to come by this season. Spence has played a total of just three minutes over three appearances in the Premier League.

It has led to reports that Spurs will be willing to loan the player out when the January window opens. Although if Forest will revive their interest is still to be seen, given the summer signings of Neco Williams and Serge Aurier.
Giving an update in a Q&A with fans , football.london’s Tottenham Hotspur correspondent, Alasdair Gold said that the next few weeks could decide the short term future of Spence, with a loan to a Premier League side possible.
"It all depends on what Conte decides,” he wrote. “Much rests on his call when it comes to Djed Spence.
“He's going to get to work with all three right wing-backs during this break and that will allow him and the coaches plenty of tactical training time with the 22-year-old. If Conte decides that Spence is still not going to get much game time in the second half of the season then it's better for all parties if he gets a loan to a Premier League club to continue to develop.
“If that happens then Conte is left at square one with Emerson and Doherty as his right wing-backs, a situation that the club was looking to change in the summer. In that scenario, surely they would have to look at right wing-back options and move one of those two players on if possible."
Spence played a total of 46 times for Forest in all competitions last season, scoring three goals and providing a further five assists. He quickly became a fan favourite at the City Ground but if a return could be on the cards in January depends on many factors.
