Djed Spence signs new Tottenham contract to continue resurgence under Ange Postecoglou

Djed Spence has signed a new contract at Tottenham, committing his future to the club until 2028.

The English right-back joined Spurs from Middlesbrough in July 2022 and has made ten appearances to date.

The 24-year-old London-born defender has spent loan spells at Rennes, Leeds United and in Serie A with Genoa, but is getting more regular game-time with Ange Postecoglou’s side this season after staying in north London for the 2024/25 campaign.

Spence has made four appearances for Spurs so far this season, including three in the Premier League, and he scored his first Tottenham goal in last month’s 2-1 away in over Coventry City in the Carabao Cup.

He and Sergio Reguilon were the unfortunate first-team pair omitted from the 23-man squad Spurs submitted to UEFA for the Europa League group-stages, meaning he cannot play in Europe this season unless he is included in their squad for the knockout rounds, should they qualify.

Between 2022 and 2023, the full-back made six appearances for England at Under-21 level, playing under the current interim England seniors’ manager Lee Carsley.

Spence’s signing for Tottenham in the summer of 2022 came off the back of a successful season on loan from Boro at then-Championship rivals Nottingham Forest in the 2021/22 campaign, in which he scored three goals in 46 games for Forest.
