Djed Spence one of ten Tottenham January transfer calls as part of Antonio Conte squad revamp

January promises to be a very interesting month at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Fabio Paratici looks to improve Antonio Conte's Tottenham squad. Adding some much-needed depth back in the summer, Spurs' form in the first part of the campaign has highlighted that more quality is now needed.

It won't all be about incomings, however, as a number of outgoings do need to take place with a handful of players in the Tottenham squad barely featuring this campaign. As much as those in question need the game time, deals will only come to fruition as long as it doesn't impact the squad as Spurs cannot leave themselves too short at the business end of the season.

So which players do Tottenham need to make a decision over ahead of the January transfer window? football.london takes a look.

The right wing-backs

All Tottenham fans will be hoping that the club solve their right wing-back issues sooner rather than later after problems in the position this campaign. Spurs have not had a lot of joy from a position which is crucial to Conte's system really thriving and it is something they must get to the bottom of if they are to hit top form.

Djed Spence will be in the headlines regarding a possible January loan move as he has only played 26 minutes for the Lilywhites across four appearances this season and is behind Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty in the pecking order. A loan switch would certainly benefit the summer signing if he is not going to play as it is no good for his development at present to be sat on the sidelines watching on.

Emerson, who has been the starter in Conte's team, is the player who would bring in the most amount of money if interested clubs are to make a move, with Doherty someone who would not fetch as much due to his age and struggles to find his top form.

Davinson Sanchez

Sanchez has been linked with a handful of different clubs over the past year or so with regular first-team football not coming his way. Injuries to Cristian Romero have presented him with a place in the team on occasions and he has fared well at times, although he did have games to forget against Leicester City and Bournemouth.

A regular on the international stage and a player with plenty of Premier League and Champions League experience behind him. Spurs would be able to bring in a decent fee for the Colombian if he was to move on. However, Spurs would need a replacement in through the door before even allowing him to leave.

Bryan Gil

Chances have been few and far between for Bryan after not getting a loan move away from the club back in the summer. Showcasing what he can do with bright cameos off the bench against Sporting CP and Bournemouth, the Spaniard is definitely one for the future at Tottenham.

Conte's reluctance to give him more playing time does mean a loan switch does need to come to fruition at the turn of the year. That may all be dependent on a replacement coming in, however, as Tottenham couldn't secure an alternative at the end of August which would have allowed the youngster to depart.

Japhet Tanganga

Tanganga also finds himself in the same boat as Bryan as he missed out on a summer loan move and has barely featured since then. The ex-England U21 international has one appearance to his name this season as he was introduced for the final 17 minutes against Marseille in September.

Tanganga needs a loan move for the sake of his career because he has missed so much football over the past few seasons through injury.

Pape Matar Sarr

January could also be when Sarr moves on for another loan spell away from Tottenham. Having spent last term back on loan with former club Metz, the Senegal international stayed in north London this summer rather than heading elsewhere.

Working day in, day out with Antonio Conte and the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur will have served him very well but it is the regular football he requires to help his game reach the next level.

Harvey White

Heading out on loan almost two years ago as he linked up with League One side Portsmouth, White has remained at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ever since. The midfielder desperately needs a temporary switch at the start of the year because football isn't coming his way at Tottenham and he's at an age where he needs to be playing every week.

As Tottenham cannot afford to let both White and Sarr go unless replacements come in, it may be a case of one or the other heading out in January.

The goalkeepers

Alfie Whiteman is now back at Hotspur Way after his loan spell with Swedish side Degerfors IF came to an end. Back in training at the club's base with those not in World Cup action, January will be an interesting month for the academy graduate, who is out of contract in 2023.

One option could be for the shot-stopper to become Spurs' third-choice goalkeeper, thus allowing Brandon Austin the opportunity to go and get some much-needed first-team football under his belt.
