DJ Moore dubbed the Bears’ biggest offensive X-factor in 2023

The Chicago Bears spent the offseason building around quarterback Justin Fields, with their biggest acquisition being wide receiver DJ Moore.

Moore was acquired in a trade of the No. 1 overall pick with the Carolina Panthers, and general manager Ryan Poles made it clear Moore had to be part of the deal.

So when CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin examined the biggest X-factor on offense for every NFL team, it didn’t come as a surprise that Moore is that guy for the Bears.

Speaking of Moore … Chicago is clearly hoping that he can do for Justin Fields what Stefon Diggs did for Josh Allen and Ja’Marr Chase did for Joe Burrow and A.J. Brown did for Jalen Hurts. Moore doesn’t necessarily have the pedigree of those other receivers, but before last season he had managed three 1,000-yard campaigns in a row despite some pretty awful quarterback play in Carolina. He’s also just 26 years old and has shown the ability to succeed in the slot and out wide, and as both a possession receiver and a guy who can take the top off the defense. Every quarterback needs a No. 1 target, and Moore should be just that for Fields.

Moore gives Fields a bonafide No. 1 receiver, which is something he hasn’t had with Chicago. When you look at how the addition of a top wideout has helped the development of young quarterbacks around the league, the addition of Moore could wind up being one of the biggest moves in Poles’ tenure.
