Good design isn't static. It should reflect the interests and tastes of the people who inhabit the space. Acclaimed interior designer, Aurélie Bard centered this philosophy when she set out to revamp the private reception room in producer DJ Khaled’s private airplane hangar. The results are stunning.
Khaled's space is a masterclass in decorating with neutrals in a luxe minimalist manner. A cream sofa centers the space with gold accents that reflect the metallics in the brass coffee tables and around the room. White walls get a luxury feel with a slab of marble featuring the producer's signature phrase. Coffee table accessories from notable luxury brands highlight the high-end, high-quality energy that Bard has worked to capture with this space.
Bard, who is the principal designer at Haute Designs tells Homes & Gardens exclusively: 'When designing DJ Khaled's private jet hangar, I prioritized creating a space that reflects his unique persona and lifestyle. Key considerations included functionality, luxury, and personalization. Given the nature of the hangar, I focused on the seamless integration of high-end design elements with practical necessities, ensuring a harmonious blend of aesthetics and utility. I also considered the space's dual purpose as both a storage area for his jets and a venue for hosting events, requiring a flexible layout that accommodates both needs. Soundproofing and acoustics were also critical, given DJ Khaled’s passion for music, ensuring the space could serve as an intimate entertainment venue.' It's a luxury living room, music room, and plane reception room all mixed into one.
She continues, 'For DJ Khaled's private jet hangar, I aimed for a look that exudes sophistication and exclusivity while embracing his vibrant personality. I envisioned a space that combines modern decor elegance with bold, statement-making elements. To achieve this, I utilized a sleek, monochromatic color palette accented with touches of gold and rich textures, creating a luxurious yet inviting atmosphere.'
Each piece of furniture was carefully considered in this design. 'The decor incorporated custom-designed furniture with plush seating and metallic finishes, reflecting a blend of contemporary and opulent styles. I selected art pieces that resonate with DJ Khaled’s energetic spirit, featuring dynamic forms and vibrant colors. The use of high-quality materials, such as decorating with marble and intricate lighting fixtures, added to the grandeur of the space,' says Bard.
'To enhance the multifunctionality of the hangar, I designed modular elements that can be easily reconfigured, allowing for smooth transitions between private moments and grand celebrations,' she adds. 'The result is a space that not only meets the functional demands of a private jet hangar but also serves as a luxurious, personalized environment that perfectly aligns with DJ Khaled's brand and lifestyle.'
The space is the epitome of how to make a home look expensive. Bard explains, 'I believe that the essence of luxury lies in the details. To capture the pinnacle of luxury design and innovation in this project, I began by crafting a vision that harmonizes timeless elegance with contemporary sophistication. The goal was to create an immersive experience that exudes opulence and exclusivity, while also providing a seamless blend of comfort and style.'
She adds: 'To achieve this luxury feel, I meticulously selected the finest materials, such as polished marble, rich woods, and bespoke textiles, which immediately convey a sense of quality and refinement. The use of a rich, yet understated color palette with touches of gold and deep hues further enhances the sense of grandeur. I paid special attention to lighting, employing custom-designed fixtures that not only illuminate but also serve as art pieces, adding a dramatic flair to the space.'
Furthermore, the living room layout is essential to the luxury ambiance of the space. Bard says: 'the spatial layout was designed to maximize the flow and functionality while maintaining an aura of elegance. I incorporated state-of-the-art technology and innovative design solutions, seamlessly integrating modern conveniences into the aesthetic without compromising the luxurious ambiance. The bespoke furniture and curated art pieces were chosen to reflect both sophistication and the unique personality of the client, making the space truly one-of-a-kind.

If you want to recreate the look, you're in luck. Bard advises: 'For readers hoping to infuse their own spaces with a similar energy, my advice is to prioritize authenticity and attention to detail. Pay attention to the scale and proportion of your furniture and decor. A well-balanced space with thoughtfully arranged elements can create a sense of harmony and flow, making the room feel both inviting and refined. Lighting can dramatically transform a space. Use a combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting to create depth and mood. Consider statement lighting fixtures that can serve as focal points and elevate the overall design.'
Bard concludes, 'Ultimately, luxury is about comfort and feeling at home. Ensure that the design reflects your lifestyle and supports your daily routines. A luxurious space should not only be beautiful but also functional and comfortable.' We couldn't say it better ourselves.
