Dizzee Rascal arrives at assault trial over alleged attack of ex-girlfriend

Dizzee Rascal has arrived at his trial today at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court after he was previously arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

The grime artist, 37, who real name is Dylan Kwabena Mills, was pictured wearing a black suit and tie as he arrived to his court trial.

The rapper has pleaded not guilty to assault by beating Cassandra Jones in Streatham, south London, on June 8.

Croydon Magistrates’ Court previously heard the rapper is charged with 'pushing his head against the complainant’s head and pushing her to the ground'.

The Metropolitan Police said officers attended and that a woman reported minor injuries.

Witnesses today at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court will include the rapper’s agent, and the alleged victim’s mother Dawn Kirk.

Last September, Chair of Magistrates Alan Hutchings adjourned the matter for trial to take place in February 2022.

He said: "You are granted bail with conditions to next appear on February 18, 2022, at 10 am.

"If you do not come back to this court on that date and time you may be committing an offence where you could be fined or sent to prison."

Mills' bail conditions included that the rapper must not contact the complainant or her mother, directly or indirectly, nor go to the road where she lives, other than for purposes of contact through solicitors in consideration of childcare.

Met Police previously confirmed in a statement to The Mirror that the star had been charged with the alleged offence.

They said at the time: "Dylan Mills, 36, of Sevenoaks, Kent, has been charged with assault after an incident at a residential address in Streatham on 8 June.

"Officers attended and a woman reported minor injuries. She did not require hospital treatment."

Dizzee was awarded an MBE in The Queen's Birthday Honours last year for his services to music.

His first album was released to critical acclaim in August 2003, with hit Fix Up, Look Sharp becoming his first UK Top 20 single.

He went on to win an NME Award for Innovation in 2004, during which time his second Album, Showtime, was released and he went on to be a part of Band Aid 20 single Do They Know It's Christmas?

In October 2020, Dizzee released his seventh album, E3 AF, which peaked at number 13 on the UK albums chart.
