Dizzee Rascal caught destroying photographer’s camera outside court after guilty verdict for assault

Dizzee Rascal has been caught on video destroying a photographer’s camera outside court after being found guilty of assaulting his former fiancee.

Bonkers hitmaker Dizzee, whose real name is Dylan Mills, received a conviction for assaulting the mother of his two children Cassandra Jones in Streatham, south London in June last year.

Following the verdict at Wimbledon Magistrates Court, he was filmed walking down a street and getting angry at a photographer who tried to take his picture.

ITV News video footage showed him snatching the photographer's equipment he picked it up from the floor and threw it into the road.

After he received the verdict, he left the courthouse and threw a photographer's camera across the street (Humphrey Nemar)

The camera was damaged with the picture preview screen shattered and other parts unattached.

Dizzee, who was in a grey suit with a bottle of water and mobile phone in hand, had been seen staring at the photographers as he left court.

He had denied assaulting his ex-fiancée, Cassandra Jones.

Friend and world championship boxer David Haye also spoke in court describing Dizzee as a "stand up and down to earth kind of human" and a "role model father".

The trial, which was partly heard in February, heard Dizzee “put his forehead” against his Miss Jones’ and “pushed her around” the room while holding their baby son, during an argument regarding custody arrangements overheard by neighbours.

Dizzee and Miss Jones met in February 2011 and after an on-off relationship became engaged in 2018, with Dizzee buying her a Tiffany’s ring.

After living in Dizzee’s house in Kent, they planned a wedding for the Summer of 2020, until Dizzee called it off, he explained to the court.

Ms Jones worked up until until they had their first baby, with Dizzee giving Cassandra funds, paying bills including first-class flight tickets abroad and a holiday home, it was alleged.

In February 2021 they broke up, after Dizzee heard that Ms Jones was giving her mum money, while other siblings were not.

Last month the court heard there was an argument after the rapper dropped off their daughter in the early evening after spending the day together.

Dizzee - who received an MBE in The Queen's Birthday Honours in 2020 for services to music - told the court he travelled six times a week from Kent to Streatham and that particular day had just bought shoes for his daughter.

He denied being “angry and upset” at the house, and claimed he was excited to see his baby son who he held in his arms.

He told how he was keen to speak to Miss Jones’ mum, Dawn Kirk, and explained: “I wanted to ask her mum why she kept allowing her daughter to use my children as a weapon against me.”

He said he and Miss Jones were arguing in loud voices.

He said Miss Jones was acting “erratic and rude” and “shouting in my face."

He took Miss Jones phone and Ms Kirk’s phone, because he said he was scared they would use them as weapons.

They continued their argument in the sitting room, where it was previously alleged the assault happened.

Miss Bennet-Jenkins asked: “Did you put ever put your head against Cassie?” and “Did you walk her back,” and “Did you see Cassie fall to the floor,” and he replied no to all three.

Mr Mills said Ms Jones had assaulted him, pushing him and scratching his arm in a statement to police.

At court today he maintained that statement and told Ms Duong, pointing to his arm: “She scratched my arm and I have got the scratches there and bruises.”

An ex-girlfriend of Dizzee's also told the court she was "very shocked" by the allegations, and added it was "not in his character at all".

She offered to provide a character reference saying he was "very calm and patient", and she had never seen him be aggressive.

District Judge Gledhill said she accepted he was a "kind and loyal partner", but continued: "Behaviour in front of friends of course is very different to behaviour behind doors", and pointed out that the ex was in a different situation to Miss Jones, who shared children with the rapper.

District Judge Gledhill, summing up, also highlighted texts sent by the rapper to Miss Jones as he was driving his daughter home, where, he said: "shut up", and "don't give me lip", as they discussed the fact he would be late dropping her off.

The star will receive his sentence next month.
