Disturbing images show bloody handprints of Glasgow 'machete' attack victim on flat stairway walls

Disturbing images have shown the bloody handprints of a 'machete' attack victim who was targeted by thugs in a flat stairway in Glasgow.

The horror incident occurred shortly after 7pm on Saturday, October 8 when a blood-soaked man was left looking like he had been 'hacked with a machete' on Shettleston Road, near Parkhead.

Shocking photos taken within the tenement block, which were shared by a resident with the Record, show tiles on the inside of the close streaked with blood, dripping from what appears to be a handprint.

The floor leading up to the entrance of the close is also stained. Footprints indicate people have trodden on the dirty floor. It is understood the pavement outside was also covered in blood.

Eileen O'Donnell, 57, who has lived at the address for over 20 years, was returning home from her job as a care assistant when she was faced with the aftermath of the attack.

She said: "It took about ten minutes for me to get into the close. I had to tell police where I lived and they had to check with a Sergeant and then CID before they let me in.

"There was blood outside on the pavement so I had to step over that, then I was escorted into the close by a policeman, who had to shine his torch on all the blood spatter so I wouldn't stand on it.

"He also told me to keep my arms by my side and not touch the walls because of the amount of blood that was there. There was a big puddle of it. I got such a shock.

"Nothing like this has happened here before."

Eyewitnesses also revealed how the 35-year-old victim was spotted pleading for help and begging people to call the police. The football top he was wearing had been rolled up exposing horrific wounds in his back and shoulders.

Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, were called to the scene, and the man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

The extent of his injuries, as well as his current condition in hospital, is not yet known.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland previously said: "Around 7.10pm on Saturday, October, 9 police received a report a man had been seriously assaulted in Shettleston Road, Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended and a 35-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"Enquiries are ongoing." The force has been contacted for further comment.
