Disturbing Footage: Elderly Missouri Man Evicted from Mansion After Nearly 200 Cats Take Over

An elderly man was ordered by St. Louis County to vacate his home after his family found that his 5,700-square-foot home had been overrun by nearly 200 cats.

The homeowner recently lost his wife, which allowed his children to finally step in to see what conditions their parents and another family member had been living in since they hadn't been allowed inside the house until September, FOX 2 reported.

"That particular person said that the home was her safe space, and she did not want us in her safe space," Carolyn Haydon, the homeowner's daughter, told FOX 2.

The homeowner's children were horrified to find the space was worse than they had imagined, with hundreds of cats running around, their waste piling up on bathroom sinks and in tubs, and other items and furniture strewn about.

The homeowner's grandson described the smell of the home "mind-blowing."

"Just the 15-20 minutes you're in there, you've got to wash your clothes," he told FOX 2.

The elderly man has been placed in assisted living and was assigned a caretaker to determine what the best next step is for him.

Meanwhile, 175 cats were rounded up by the APA and are now awaiting adoption.
