Distracted ITV This Morning viewers 'feel sorry' for Marti Pellow as some jump to singer's defence

This Morning viewers were left distracted as Marti Pellow appeared on the show - and some were soon left jumping to his defence. The Wet Wet Wet frontman was on the ITV daytime show to chat about his current show and upcoming tour.

The 58-year-old, who shot to fame as the lead singer the band in the 1980s alongside Neil Mitchell, Tommy Cunningham, Graeme Clark, and Lindsey McCauley, also chatted to Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary about his early career.

"What was it that inspired you at that age when you were 13 and putting pen to paper?" Dermot asked to which Marti replied: "Going and watching bands. Going to watch live music and going to see bands."

He explained: "The rest of the guys in the band were switched on to different types of music... Going to see The Clash and that was the premise, anybody could get up and do it at that time. Even at school because we were all in the same class together."

Following his interview, Marti proceeded to perform one of his new songs live on the show, however, This Morning couldn't help but comment on his appearance as he sported an eye-catching purple suit for his latest TV stint.

@realgmg67 joked: "Marti Pellow, the quality street purple one!" @fuzzybeepants tweeted: "Now that's a suit... #ThisMorning." @TerryF1010 taunted: "I used to have a sofa covered in that purple fabric and it looked better on the sofa. #ThisMorning."

@PatelBropodcast posted: "Why is Marti Pellow dressed like Willy Wonka..." @JoviGirl_1980 echoed: "Love Marti Pellow, but why's he dressed like Willy Wonka? Is it because it's nearly Easter?? #ThisMorning."

Others then jumped to the defence of the Love Is All Around singer after his performance came in for some criticism. @Bebop76845845 tweeted: "Actually feeling sorry for Marti Pellow #ThisMorning." @whoareyou_64 said: "Gotta love @martiofficial on a Friday morning #ThisMorning #MartiPellow."

@ClaireF39065082 shared: "Omd - Marti Pellow. Anyone else feel emotional listening to him singing Angel Eyes? flashback listening to his music in my teens #ThisMorning." @IHEARTVEGAN added: "Awww marti pellow. Can’t tell if sound have done him over or purposely turned him down #thismorning."
