Drivers face disruption on one of Ayrshire's busiest routes after a roadworks project began last night.
Essential maintenance is being carried out on the A78 between Manson Road and the Warrix Interchange southbound.
The work is expected to be completed by Monday, June 27 but a 24-hour contraflow and one further overnight closure has been planned for.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the network management contract for the south-west trunk road unit, is delivering the scheme.
From today until 8pm on Sunday, June 26, the 24-hour contraflow will be in operation so motorists are advised that journeys could take a little longer.
In addition, from 8pm that Sunday to 6am on Monday, June 27, the aforementioned route will be subject to an overnight closure with a diversion put in place.
The Eglinton southbound on-slip, Warrix southbound off-slip and Warrix southbound on-slip are all closed until June 27 to accommodate the contraflow and diversion route.
During the overnight closures, southbound traffic will be diverted to exit the A78 at Eglinton Interchange and will continue on Long Drive to Greenwood Interchange.
From here, traffic will join the A71 westbound and at Merryvale roundabout will join the A737 southbound. Traffic will then be able to rejoin the A78 southbound via the New House Interchange.
Roads chiefs say access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the duration of the works.
