Disruption expected across Scotland as Met Office issues two yellow weather warnings

TWO yellow weather warnings have been issued for most of Scotland with wind and ice expected to hit.

The Met Office has announced a warning for ice, which covers most of the east of Scotland as well as Glasgow and Edinburgh.

A separate warning for wind will also come into place for several islands, including Lewis and Harris as well as parts of the Highlands and Shetland.

When are the warnings?

The yellow warning for ice will come into place from 9pm on Tuesday, December 3 and last until 10am on Wednesday, December 4.

The Met Office said: “Ice will form on untreated surfaces, perhaps causing some transport disruption and increasing the chance of accidents.”

It has warned of some “icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths,” and that “tricky driving conditions” will increase the risk of potential accidents and injuries.

What about the wind warning?

A yellow warning for wind has also been issued and will come into place from 4pm on Wednesday, December 4.

It will last until 9am on Thursday, December 5 with the forecaster warning “strong winds may cause disruption to travel”.

(Image: Met Office) It said it is likely “some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities” will be affected by “spray and/or large waves”.

The Met Office added some delays to road, rail air and ferry transport are “likely” while power cuts are also possible.
