Disqualified Lanarkshire joyrider dodges jail after high speed cop chase whilst kids were in the car

A Lanarkshire driver who had two young children on board during a high speed police chase has been fined more than £1000.

Robert Brown, of Faulkner Drive, East Kilbride, was also banned from driving for 18 months, but he avoided a prison sentence at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

The 27-year-old, who was disqualified from driving at the time, veered on to the wrong side of the road as he tried to get away from the police on September 24, 2020.

When he was finally stopped he yelled threats and assaulted one officer.

The police officers found infants aged four and one in his car, along with Brown's partner.

Brown admitted driving dangerously, while disqualified and while on bail on Newhousemill Road.

He also admitted threatening or abusive behaviour towards the police and kicking and punching a female officer.

Brown further admitted driving while disqualified on Queensway, East Kilbride, earlier in September 2020.

Following the police chase, Lanarkshire Live told how Newhousemill Road residents had been woken by a commotion at 8am.

They witnessed Brown being taken to the ground when the chase ended.

One resident said that at least a dozen police officers were involved.

Another said: "The police didn't have an easy time of it and did well to eventually get the man on the ground."

Brown was fined a total of £1030 and ordered to pay £100 per month.

After serving the latest ban he must resit his test if he wants to drive again.

Brown was also handed a four-month electronic tagging order, preventing him from going out at night.
