Disposable vapes should be banned, according to Dubs

There have been calls to ban disposable vapes due to fears they encourage young people to pick up the habit.

There is currently no legislation in force which prohibits the sale of vaping products to people under the age of 18, either directly or indirectly. Vape Business Ireland has called for legislation in this area.

A spokesman for the group said: "From the outset, our association has made clear that vaping products should only be accessible to adult ex-smokers. VBI is hopeful that a ban on selling vape products to under 18s, as outlined in the General Scheme of the Public Health (Tobacco and Nicotine Inhaling Products Bill) will be enacted as soon as possible.

"VBI was thankful for the opportunity to engage with members of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health earlier this year, where we made a number of recommendations on how to ensure that vape products remain inaccessible to youth. Following the appearance, VBI made further recommendations to the Committee, which pertain specifically to the rollout of age verification technology, as an additional safeguard.

"VBI continues to act as a responsible partner to Government, public health authorities, and industry stakeholders to ensure that vaping products are used only by adult ex-smokers."
