Disneyland Paris 'refuses to serve halal meals' to fuming NHS doctor and his family

A NHS doctor on his first family holiday since working on the Covid frontline has accused Disneyland Paris staff of wrecking their trip by refused to serve them halal meals.

Dr Syed Asim Ali Mukhtar, his wife Elena Arsene, their 16-year-old daughter Reena and 12-year-old son Hussnain say their dishes arrived at the table frozen - and staff told them to heat the food up themselves.

The family-of-four had travelled to the tourist attraction for a much-needed break after Dr Syed spent two years working during the pandemic.

They made reservations for meals each of the four evenings they were at the park after arriving on Friday.

The first dinner they had at the Yacht Club eatery at the tourist attraction in the French capital passed with no problems.

But on the second day on Saturday, the family's halal beef and rice meals - costing a total of £132 - at the Plaza Gardens Restaurant arrived as blocks of ice.

Dr Syed, 46, a Consultant Acute Medicine at Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said they were told they could not be cooked by the chefs because it wouldn't be halal.

The devastated family - who left the theme park on Tuesday - were told to heat the meals up themselves in a microwave, he claimed.

He said: "It said on the website if you have any dietary requirements they can be catered for.

"On the first night, they had the food ready and it was heated. On the second night we had a second reservation booked at a restaurant at the park for 4:30pm.

"We went in and sat at the table and the food was like ice. It had frost on it. It was so hard."

Dy Syed, of Newport, Isle of Wight added: "We were told to go and heat it up ourselves in the microwave.

"We expected it to be served heated and at the table like every other customer.

"The staff said they wouldn't touch the meal as it was halal. I come from a professional environment, so I do not like to cause a scene.

"My work is very stressful. The last two years have been very hard. This is our first holiday since the pandemic."

"I have been working extensively with diversity and inclusion with the Royal College of Physicians and my local trust on the Isle of Wight.

"It is really painful when you get profiled and discriminated against, so blatantly.

"The painful issue was the indifference of the staff."

"The staff didn't understand or wanted to understand our concerns.

The family were forced to eat vegetarian meals for the remainder of their stay.

The Disneyland Paris website reads: "Disneyland Paris offers a range of options to ensure the magic exists even on your plate.

"With vegetarian, kosher and halal options, and a full list of major allergens for all our dishes, there's something delicious to suit all tastes and dietary needs."

It adds: "Halal and Kosher meals. All our table service restaurants and all-you-can-eat restaurants within our Parks, Disney accommodation and Disney Village can offer sealed and certified halal dishes and kosher meals.

"Please call us at least 48 hours ahead of time to order your meal."

Dy Syed said he ordered all their meals on July 25 - 11 days before their arrival.

He added: "To be clear I had paid for all the arrangements in advance. I would never visit Disneyland Paris ever again.

"I would like to put it as human rights infringement and blatant discrimination.

"I would like myself and my family to be treated with respect."

Disneyland Paris declined to comment.
