Disney vacation season is upon us and with it comes crowds of visitors taking a journey to its theme parks in Florida and California. Guests will need to keep a scorecard of which rides are operating, since Disney (DIS) has decided to schedule some ride closures during the summer months that might disrupt some trips.
Splash Mountain at Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Orlando closed on Jan. 23, while the same ride closed May 31 at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., both to be rethemed as Tiana's Bayou Adventure and reopening in 2024.

Tarzan's Treehouse in Adventureland at Disneyland shut down in September 2021 for refurbishment and remains covered from public view. No reopening date has been revealed. The Matterhorn Bobsleds, which temporarily closed on April 17 for refurbishment, will reopen June 1.
Disneyland Resort on June 5 is set to close three popular classic rides at Disneyland and one ride at California Adventure for refurbishments.
Popular Rides Closing in June
Among the rides set for closing on June 5 are the popular Peter Pan's Flight in Fantasyland at Disneyland and its next-door neighbor at the park, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Both are original rides that began operating at Disneyland on Opening Day, July 17, 1955. Mr. Toad reopens June 15, and Peter Pan will reopen June 29.
Another popular ride set for June 5 closing in Fantasyland is Alice in Wonderland, which will also reopen June 15 after a quick refurbishment.
Next door to Disneyland at California Adventure, Little Mermaid - Ariel's Undersea Adventure is the only ride closing on June 5 at that park, but it will only be shut down three days, reopening June 8 after an even faster refurbishment.
Disneyland Resort, however won't be finished in June with all of its refurbishment work. The summer months are some of the busiest times at the Disneyland Resort, but the theme park operator still has plans to close major attractions after the July 4 celebration.
Disney's original theme park will close the Disneyland Monorail, which first opened June 14, 1959, beginning July 5 for a makeover. Disneyland, however, has not revealed a reopening date for the Monorail as the park's website asks guests to please check back on the webpage for updates about when it will reopen.
The closure of the Monorail will be an inconvenience to sentimental guests who enjoy taking a ride on the world's first single-rail transportation system, which travels from the Disneyland station in Tomorrowland, past the Matterhorn, California Adventure's Grizzly Peak, Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land, through the Grand Californian Hotel to the Downtown Disney Monorail Station.
Alice in Wonderland Closes a Second Time
One curious shut down will be a second closing of the Alice in Wonderland ride for reconditioning also on July 5, only 20 days after the attraction reopened from a previous refurbishing. Disney doesn't say specifically why the ride needs to close a second time, and it has not yet set a second reopening date for the ride.
Finally, Disney's California Adventure park's Soarin' Around The World will shut its doors on July 5 as well, with no reopening date mentioned. The theme park's calendar schedule currently is only updated through July 12, but all dates since July 5 show no ride times.
The IMAX digital projection attraction, which simulates the motion of flight over various world landmarks, first opened in 2001 at the park as Soarin' Over California. The ride was transformed into Soarin' Around The World in 2016 after Epcot in Florida had launched its world version in 2005.
