Disney has announced that 14 influential artists will be honored with the prestigious title of 'Legends' for their significant impact on the company's legacy. The honorees include renowned figures such as Harrison Ford, Angela Bassett, and Miley Cyrus, who have each left a lasting mark on Disney's history.
The induction ceremony for this year's class of Disney Legends will take place at The Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as part of the D23 fan convention. The event will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest and will celebrate the achievements of individuals who have shaped Disney's cultural landscape.
Among the distinguished honorees are director James Cameron, legendary film composer John Williams, and acclaimed actress Jamie Lee Curtis. The list also includes Kelly Ripa, James L. Brooks, and several other notable personalities who have made significant contributions to Disney's success.
Harrison Ford, known for his iconic roles in franchises like 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones,' will have his handprints immortalized for a second time, two decades after his induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ford is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film 'Captain America: Brave New World.'
Other honorees, such as Angela Bassett and Miley Cyrus, have also made their mark in the entertainment industry. Bassett, known for her roles in 'Black Panther' and '9-1-1,' will be recognized for her outstanding contributions to film and television. Cyrus, who rose to fame with 'Hannah Montana' and later pursued a successful music career, will be the youngest recipient of the Legends honor.
In addition to the individual honorees, Disney will also pay tribute to six behind-the-scenes creatives who have played pivotal roles in the company's success. These include Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, prominent animator Mark Henn, and the late comics artist Steve Ditko, among others.
The Disney Legends program, which began in 1987, has previously honored industry icons such as Elton John, Steve Jobs, and Betty White. With over 300 honorees to date, the program continues to recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals who have helped shape the magic of Disney.
