Anyone looking to sign up for a Disney+ account is being warned to steer clear of an email scam which promises to cut the streaming plan's price by 98 per cent.
While the offer might seem tempting, consumer experts at Which? have issued an alert over the con which could empty your bank account. Targets will receive from an email 'DisneyPlus@customercontact.com' which claims to offer a 12 month Disney+ TV plan for just £2 - a considerable drop from its actual £59 annual fee, or £5.99 monthly price.
However, it includes a link that encourages readers to click for a free trial, but actually directs to a series of fake sights asking for personal details, which scammers can use to drain accounts. The fake message displays an image of the 'The Avengers' movie, making it look rather convincing, Wales Online reports.
A Which? spokesman said: "The site features a countdown clock to tell you that the ‘offer’ will soon expire – this is designed to pile on the pressure and make you act quickly without thinking things through. If you enter your details, you’ll be giving them to the scammer."
Online reviews of the sites the links go to accuse the websites of taking unauthorised payments from accounts. You can report emails by forwarding them to report@phishing.gov.uk or by selecting ‘Report spam’ on Gmail, ‘Report phishing’ on Hotmail or by forwarding emails to abuse@yahoo.com from a Yahoo account.
Suspicious websites can be reported to the National Cyber Security Centre (NSCS).
Cyber crime is all too common these days, as hackers are using the current cost of living crisis to manipulate vulnerable people out of hard earned money. The HMRC recently issued a warning over an email scam offering a tax fake refund, urging anyone who receives the message to not respond to it as it asks for personal details.
