ORLANDO, Fla. — Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park is incorporating experiences tied to the upcoming animated film “Raya and the Last Dragon.”
Artists will construct a 40-ton sand sculpture on the Discovery Island Stage, and park visitors can observe that process Feb. 19-21. The display will include film characters Raya, Tuk Tuk, Sisu (the last dragon) and the Ongi. It will remain in place through the end of March, Disney says.
On Feb. 22, the Animation Experience at Conservation Station will add Raya and Tuk Tuk to the lineup of characters that participants can learn to draw. A Disney Parks Blog post describes Tuk Tuk as “part pill bug, part pug, part high-speed off-road vehicle.”
“Raya and the Last Dragon” is set in the fictional land of Kumandra, which is reportedly inspired by cultures from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The film, which was pushed back from a late 2020 release, will be available in theaters and via Disney+ Premier Access on March 5. It features the voices of Kelly Marie Tran (as Raya), Alan Tudyk (Tuk Tuk), Awkwafina (Sisu), Daniel Dae Kim, Sandra Oh, Benedict Wong and others. Tran played Rose Tico in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Tudyk did voices in “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” “Frozen,” “Frozen II,” “Big Hero 6,” “Zootopia,” “Moana” and 2019′s “Aladdin.”
