Disney has reached a tentative agreement with four unions representing thousands of workers at its California theme parks, including ride operators, candy makers, and parking attendants. The coalition of unions announced on Wednesday that its 14,000 workers will vote on the deal on Monday. Specific details of the agreement have not been disclosed at this time.
This development follows a period of negotiations that included discussions on wages, sick leave, and other benefits. The agreement comes shortly after workers at the Disneyland Resort authorized a potential strike, underscoring the importance of these ongoing talks.
In a statement, the coalition expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, 'We have shown Disney that we are the true magic makers of the park, and today proves that when workers stand together for what they deserve, we win.'
Most of the employees at the Disneyland Resort, which comprises Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney in Anaheim, are represented by labor unions. The resort, a popular tourist destination, has been the world's second-most visited theme park after Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida.
Disneyland officials have welcomed the tentative agreement, particularly in light of the recent approval for a significant expansion by the city of Anaheim. A resort spokesperson emphasized the company's commitment to its employees, stating, 'We care deeply about the wellbeing of our cast members and are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with Master Services Council that addresses what matters most to our cast while positioning Disneyland Resort for future growth and job creation.'
