ORLANDO, Fla. — Disney MagicMobile, a new option for gaining entrance into Walt Disney World’s theme parks, launched to the general public with Apple devices Tuesday morning, Disney has confirmed.
Visitors can set up the method using the My Disney Experience app. After that, they can use the iPhone, Apple Watch and other products to enter in a touchless manner, much like MagicBands. “Just hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near a reader,” the setup screen instructs. There is no need to unlock the device.
The setup puts a digital version of the ticket into Apple Wallet, and there are design options there to choose from, including several colors of mouse ears, illustrations from the four Disney World parks and food items, including the Mickey bar. (They animate upon use, a post on the official Disney Parks Blog says.)
MagicBands will remain in use, and they can be used interchangeably with Disney MagicMobile, the company says. Using MagicMobile is not a requirement.
The option had previously been launched with Disney World workers’ accounts. MagicMobile was first announced last week.
MagicMobile can be used to connect with Disney PhotoPass photos; eventually, guests staying at Disney hotels will be able to charge purchases to their room with the new method.
Other smart devices will be added to the system later, Disney says.
