Disney+ fans complain as film released in May removed from platform

Disney+ subscribers have been left confused after an original film which debuted just weeks ago has been pulled from the platform.

Sci-fi adventure Crater launched on May 12, starring Family Reunion's Isaiah Russell-Bailey as Caleb, a boy raised on a lunar mining colony. After the death of his father Michael, played by rapper Kid Cudi, Caleb and his friends hijack a rover to explore a mysterious crater in a bid to fulfil his dad's final wish.

The film, directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez and produced with the help of Stanger Things' Dan Cohen, premiered on the streaming service on May 12. It reportedly cost $53.4 million to produce, yet was only on the platform for 48 days.

The film's trailer, uploaded to the official Walt Disney Studios page, is still available to watch.

It comes as fantasy series Willow was recently taken off Disney+, despite it premiering in November. Sci-fi series Y: The Last Man and docuseries The World According to Jeff Goldblum have also been removed from the platform.

Not only that, but two dramas - The Company You Keep and The Watchful Eye - which were set to debut in July will no longer be added to the service.

Many took to Twitter to vent their frustration, while others questioned the fate of the deleted content. @babelfish76 wrote: "Guess I won’t be watching Crater then? Really disliking Disney Plus atm" and @TanyaGeter asked: "Can you bring Crater back? Why was it removed? #CraterMovie".

Addressing Willow's disappearance, @Mavakor said: "How about you stop deleting the shows and movies that can only be found on your platform? I loved Willow and you destroyed it without even giving it a chance to grow" and @mandaroryan wrote: "Bring back Willow. Deleting things just ruins the magic."

@NordRonnoc asked: "So where exactly will shows and movies like Willow and Crater go now that they've been removed from Disney+?" and @thekylerman added: "I’ve never been more upset with Disney for this. Where are we supposed to watch the Willow series if it’s not on DisneyPlus?!!!"
