Disney CEO Bob Iger Optimistic About Deadpool & Wolverine Success

Disney's CEO Bob Iger holds a news conference at Shanghai Disney Resort as part of the three-day Grand Opening events in Shanghai

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently expressed his optimism for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, Deadpool & Wolverine, during a presentation at the Morgan Stanley media and telecom conference. Iger believes that the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led movie will be a significant success at the box office, stating that it will be one of the more successful Marvel movies in recent times.

Addressing the concept of audience fatigue in the superhero genre, Iger emphasized that the success of the MCU is not a result of fatigue but rather a demand for high-quality films. He highlighted the MCU's impressive track record, having generated over $29 billion in global box office revenue to date.

Despite some recent disappointments like The Marvels, Iger pointed out that Marvel continues to have success stories, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed $1.92 billion worldwide, even amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Iger stressed the importance of focus in Marvel's output, mentioning a reduction in the number of films and TV shows produced. He expressed confidence in the team and the intellectual property being developed, emphasizing a forward-looking approach and a commitment to excellence in every aspect of the filmmaking process.

Looking back at past successes, Iger highlighted Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as the second highest-grossing installment in the series, with a global total of $846 million. He credited the culture of excellence and respect within the creative community for Marvel's achievements.

As Deadpool & Wolverine prepares for its theatrical release on July 26, Iger's positive outlook reflects Disney's ongoing commitment to delivering compelling and successful Marvel films that resonate with audiences worldwide.
