Disney cancels Descendants 3 premiere after Cameron Boyce's death

Disney has cancelled the red carpet premiere of Descendants 3 after the death of star Cameron Boyce.

The 20-year-old actor, who played Carlos in the film franchise, died in his sleep as a result of an epileptic seizure last week, his family confirmed.

The studio confirmed that the event, which was set to take place on July 22 in Los Angeles, has been called off after Boyce’s passing and said that they would instead mark the release by donating to charity.

“We’re proud to be part of Cameron Boyce’s legacy by showcasing his talents on screen, but we are cancelling the red carpet premiere event for Descendants 3 scheduled for July 22,” a statement read.

“Instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organisation to which Cameron was deeply committed.

“With permission from the Boyce family, Disney Channel will dedicate the telecast of Descendants 3 in Cameron Boyce’s memory.”

Boyce played the teenage son of Cruella de Vil in the film series, which tells the story of the offspring of iconic Disney villains.

He also starred in Disney Channel comedy series Jessie.

Confirming news of his death last weekend, a spokesman for the Boyce family said: “The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him.

“We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.”

His former co-stars Dove Cameron, Zendaya and Adam Sandler were among the actors to pay tribute.
