While Pirates of the Caribbean fans have only been dealt scant updates about the film series over the past few years, actress Margot Robbie has just delivered a crippling revelation regarding its future.
The budding Aussie has revealed that the up and coming Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is now 'dead'.
The Express reports she said: "We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led - not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story - which we thought would’ve been really cool."

The Harley Quinn star announced back in 2020 that she was hopeful for a new Pirates saga which would bring 'lots of girl power' to silver screens worldwide, confirming that it was being penned by Birds of Prey writer, Christina Hodson.
She continued: "No, it’s too early to talk about it. I love Christina, obviously. I’m not a producer on Pirates, so I’ll sit back and kind of wait for the process."
She added: "We’re really, really excited at the prospect of adding obviously a very key female element to that world."
However, she has recently revealed that this week, Disney has completely scrapped the exciting new project. According to Vanity Fair, Robbie said: "I guess they don’t want to do it."
With Robbie's version of Pirates of the Caribbean now spiked, the future of the series is a complete mystery. The latest movie in the franchise left a massive window open for future sequels, as it reintroduced the characters played by Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley (Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan, respectively).
Unfortunately, because of Depp's unexpected exit from the series, there doesn't seem to be any movement on continuing this epic story in the near future. Depp was reportedly dropped by Disney in 2018 after his ex-wife, Amber Heard, wrote an op-ed that accused him of domestic abuse.
After that, the pair engaged in an extremely public court battle over libel and defamation. During the court's proceedings, the Edward Scissorhands actor was asked if he would ever return to the franchise.
He was quizzed by the lawyer: "The fact is, Mr Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film, correct?" Depp confirmed: "That is true, Mr Rottenborn."
And despite his exit, hopeful fans have continuously attempted to defend him - while demanding that Disney reinstate him to the role he excelled in during his tenure.
Shortly after Depp's departure from the franchise, fans launched a persuasive petition to get him back in the film series titled: "We want JOHNNY DEPP back as CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW." At the time of writing, it has accrued nearly 879,000 signatures from passionate fans.
