'Disgusting' - Paul Scholes takes aim at Manchester United after Liverpool defeat

Paul Scholes has admitted watching Manchester United succumb to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool left him feeling 'saddened' as opposed to angered at the full-time whistle.

The Red Devils were passengers for much of the game at Anfield and found themselves a goal down inside five minutes after Luis Diaz opened the scoring. Things only got worse for the visitors as the contest continued, with a further three goals added before the full-time whistle.

This was a performance lacking any kind of spirit and desire from United, who were second-best in every department and laid bare the gulf in class that now exists between the two teams. Ralf Rangnick's side now sit 22 points adrift of Liverpool, having played a game more, and are a shadow of their former selves.

Such was the poor nature of this performance, Roy Keane was left deflated at the full-time whistle and stated: "No heart, soul or leaders. No surprise at the scoreline. There's disarray at the club. It's so sad to see. This is not the club I played for."

Adopting a similar tone to the former Republic of Ireland international was Scholes, who has also passed the point of frustration regarding his feelings for his former employers. “I have probably lost a little bit of anger towards them,” Scholes told Premier League Productions.

"I feel saddened watching it really. It’s not great to watch. They lack belief. They lack a way of playing. But I think I prefer to talk about Liverpool tonight.

"Liverpool have been sensational. An absolute masterclass on how to control a game of football and when it’s needed in the final third, that little injection of pace.

“I am saddened by Man United. It looks like this is the last place in the world they want to be. You can’t come to Anfield and be like that. It’s a disgusting performance. You can’t take anything away from Liverpool. They are a sensational football team.”
