Manchester United fans are furious that VAR adjudged the ball to have stayed in play in the build-up to Said Benrahma’s goal for West Ham in Wednesday’s FA Cup clash.
Tomas Soucek looked to have allowed the ball to roll over the line before dragging it back onto the pitch. Amidst the close call, United players had stopped running, only to have to scramble back when the officials waved play on.
Benrahma picked up the ball and fired it into the corner of David de Gea’s net to give the visitors the lead on 54 minutes. As soon as the ball hit the back of the net, United players protested that the ball had indeed gone out of play.

A VAR check followed but the hosts were left disappointed when the officials decided there was not enough evidence to overturn the decision. ITV later showed an angle that looked as though the ball could have indeed been out of play.
Replays clearly showed the bottom of the ball beyond the touchline but there was debate over whether it was still overhanging the line, which would deem it still in play. However, many United fans felt aggrieved with the decision and believed the ball was out.
Fans on Twitter vented their frustrations, with some annoyed that the VAR check itself had not been shown on the broadcast, as it was when Casemiro's header was chalked off 20 minutes later.
