Disgraced face of Slimfast Barry Bethell dies after being jailed for sexual assault

Barry Bethell, the disgraced former face of Slimfast who was jailed for sexually assaulting a young girl, has died. it has been confirmed

The 80-year-old appeared in television ads for the dieting brand in the 1990s and became renowned for his "I can't believe I was that fat!" catchphrase.

In 2009 the paedophile "Diet King" was jailed for four years for sexually assaulting a young girl.

The then 66-year-old had lured the 13-year-old girl to his home in Whitsable, Kent, with the promise he could help break her into showbusiness.

Before his downfall he worked on various radio stations as well as TV show After They Were Famous in 2002.

Bethell was the face for Slimfast in the 1990s as he starred in their tv commercials (Derby Telegraph)

It has now been confirmed he has died, the Sun reports.

Bethell had admitted eight other charges, including seven of taking indecent images of children.

He was also found guilty of three charges of taking indecent images of a child following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court in Kent.

Judge Adele Williams told him at the time: "You do not begin to recognise the damage you have caused to this young life.

"You did it for your own sexual purposes."
