Disgraced Ex-Spanish Soccer Federation President Returns Amid Probe

Nicaragua grants asylum to Panama's ex-President Martinelli

Former Spanish soccer federation president, Luis Rubiales, is making his way back to Spain from the Dominican Republic amidst an ongoing judicial investigation into the business deal involving the Spanish Super Cup being held in Saudi Arabia.

Rubiales is expected to land at Madrid's airport on Wednesday, where a significant number of journalists have gathered to cover his arrival.

Two weeks ago, while Rubiales was in the Dominican Republic, police conducted raids on a property owned by him in Granada and the offices of the Spanish Football Federation in Madrid. These raids were part of a broader investigation into corruption and money laundering, with the Super Cup deal being one of the focal points. Seven individuals were detained by the police, and Rubiales was named as one of five additional persons under investigation.

Rubiales resigned from his position in September following a controversial incident where he was involved in a scandal for allegedly kissing Spain player Jenni Hermoso without her consent during the Women's World Cup final. He is currently facing trial for the alleged sexual assault on Hermoso, a charge he vehemently denies.

Despite the legal challenges and controversies surrounding him, Rubiales is now back in Spain as the investigation into the Super Cup deal and other matters continues.
