Disabled woman angered as 'ignorant' note left on her car

A woman who had an ignorant note left on her car has said the person who did so must have 'absolutely no life'. The note on her car said she would be reported for having a blue badge.

The driver, Helen, qualifies for a blue badge after numerous spinal surgeries, but can walk, is only in her 40s, and doesn't use a wheelchair, Manchester Evening News reports. The note, written in block capitals on Sunday, February 27, said: "Your BB has been taken and reported to the ticket office".

Helen, from Bury, had parked at Heaton Park in Manchester and said the note was left by a 'narrow-minded ignorant person'. She said: "Just because I’m young and not in wheelchair doesn’t mean I’m not entitled to a blue badge.

Helen has a 'really bad back', has had numerous spinal surgeries, and has nerve damage in her legs. On Sunday, she decided to go for a quick stroll in the park to help manage her back.

She said: "They obviously saw me, saw that I'm in my 40s, walking away. And I just thought they've got no idea what my circumstances are."

Helen said she had recently lost a friend to cancer and she had a blue badge too. "What if I had been her, and I was here to take my last walk ever, and I came back to this message? How rude can some people be."

Helen said she has been confronted about her blue badge on other occasions. She says that whenever she goes to Tesco she gets people staring at her.

"Someone once said to me 'are you travelling around with a dead relative's blue badge'," she said. Helen used to have a blue badge for her son too, who has autism.

She recalls a time when her son was six or seven and a man with a stick called her a 'f***ing b**ch'. Helen says she reacted by shoving her blue badge in his face and saying 'are you happy now'.

She said in other circumstances she would confront people by saying things like 'do you want to see the scars down my back'. There was no way for Helen to respond to the person who left this note at Heaton Park.

But, Helen says she knows whoever left the note has 'absolutely no life'.
