Inspectors slammed a "dirty" Leeds takeaway which was operating without a working hand wash basin for staff.
The Shama in Lowton, Pudsey, was handed a damning one-star food hygiene rating after inspectors found multiple issues. The burger, kebab, pizza and curry takeaway received a surprise visit on July 27.
The inspector, working on behalf of Leeds City Council and the Food Standards Agency said in their report: “Ensure handwash basin facilities are working. A means for washing hands should be in place.”

They also discovered there was no food safety management system in place. Plus “dirty” chopping boards were being stacked on top of each other, risking cross-contamination between raw meat and ready-to-eat food.
Multiple areas needed cleaning. Fridges needed “cleaning inside and out”. The walls were discovered covered in "food splashings". Inspectors were also shocked to find there was “no sanitiser for cleaning” at the venue.
Not all food was being stored in correct containers and properly labelled. There was also damage to the kitchen floor which needed fixing, to aid with cleaning.
A month later, the takeaway confirmed with the council that a hot water supply had been returned to the wash hand basin. The Shama was asked for a comment.
