Luka Doncic was supposed to be the face of the Dallas Mavericks for at least another decade. Now he’s a Los Angeles Laker.
The news broke just around midnight Saturday on the east coast, and NBA fans were so stunned that Dallas would trade it’s superstar most believed Shams Charania had been hacked when he reported the deal.
We’re still learning why the Mavericks did this — as well as trying to process it all in real time.
Among those doing the same is Dallas icon Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavericks’ Hall of Famer and special advisor appeared just as shocked as everyone else. On Twitter, Dirk could only muster up a single word in reaction to the news.

Ok, so that’s not really a word. It’s an emoji. But it surely sums up how most of Dallas has to be feeling right now.
Superstars like Doncic don’t come around often. And when they do land in your franchise, you’re not supposed to trade them away at age 25.
