Victoria Beckham’s upcoming series will be directed by Nadia Hallgren, the filmmaker behind the Michelle Obama documentary Becoming, Netflix has said.
The series will offer a “behind-the-scenes” look at her reinvention from Spice Girl to the founder of her own fashion and beauty brand.
It follows the success of Beckham, the Netflix docuseries which followed the rise of her husband David Beckham from a young talented footballer to England captain.
From the Bronx in the New York, Hallgren has worked on a number of award-nominated projects including 2020’s Becoming – which received numerous Emmy nods.
The Netflix documentary followed the former first lady on her book tour after publishing her memoir of the same name, providing a more intimate look in to her life.
Hallgren was also recently the series director on Pop Star Academy: Katseye, which saw aspiring pop stars undergo a K-pop training programme, and on 2022’s Civil: Ben Crump, which followed civil rights lawyer Ben Crump.
Production on the new Beckham series began in August with Hallgren and crew following the singer-turned fashion designer across the world as she continues to build her business.
The new docuseries will provide further access to the Beckham family and those close to them, as well as featuring “never-before-seen” archive footage.
Victoria and David married in 1999 and share four children together – Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
Emmy-nominated Nicola Howson, who worked on the first docuseries, will act as executive producer on the Victoria edition alongside Bafta-nominated producer Julia Nottingham.
At the Edinburgh TV Festival where the series was announced, Adam Hawkins, director for documentary series at Netflix, praised how Victoria came across during the previous Beckham series.
He said: “One thing was Victoria herself, those scenes with her… she’s surprising, she’s warm, she’s witty, she’s super smart, and now we’re going to get a chance to hang out with her for the next several months.”
