The director of the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) in Gaza, Raafat Salha, tragically lost his life after being hit by an Israeli airstrike earlier this week. The Ministry of Health in Gaza and another rights group have confirmed Salha's death, along with 12 of his family members, including his wife and four children.
The strike occurred at 11:35 p.m. local time on Tuesday in Deir al-Balah, where the family was seeking shelter. Salha sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Al-Aqsa hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights denounced the attack, labeling it as another in a series of crimes against civilians in Gaza. The ICHR explicitly held Israel accountable for the tragedy, emphasizing the ongoing impact of such atrocities on the local population.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been contacted for comment on the incident. Additionally, the violence in the region escalated further as at least 45 individuals were reported dead in Gaza due to Israeli airstrikes overnight, following the recent ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
