Director Greta Gerwig has expressed enthusiasm for a sequel to the successful movie Barbie, following its critical acclaim, box office success, and awards recognition. Gerwig, who initially had reservations about the idea, now states that she is fully on board for Barbie 2, citing 'no resistance' towards the project.

Barbie, the first installment, garnered both critical and commercial success, grossing over $1 billion at the box office. The positive reception has prompted the studio to consider greenlighting a sequel promptly. Mattel's CEO, Ynon Kreiz, hinted at potential Barbie sequels and spinoffs, exploring the diverse universe within the Barbie brand.

The star-studded cast of Barbie includes Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, and others, with Gerwig and Noah Baumbach at the helm. The movie follows Barbie's journey into the real world after facing an existential crisis.

At the recent Academy Awards, Barbie received eight nominations, winning the Best Original Song category for 'What Was I Made For?' performed by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell. The film's lead actors, Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig, however, did not secure individual nominations.

Ryan Gosling's performance of 'I'm Just Ken' at the Oscars, accompanied by a group of 'Kens,' including his co-stars and musicians, was a highlight of the evening, lauded as one of the best live performances in recent years.

Prior to Barbie 2, Gerwig will direct a Netflix reboot of The Chronicles of Narnia series, a project she approaches with a mix of excitement and trepidation due to her deep respect for the literary classic.
