As stated by Jack's Flight Club, "these fares should last at least a few days" but holidaymakers should be quick if they want to nab the cheapest flights possible.

The direct flights are launching in perfect time to catch the Northern Lights, with the aurora borealis season in Iceland lasting between September and April.

Glasgow music lovers will also be able to take advantage of the cheap fares to catch the Iceland Airwaves music festival in Reykjavík, which in the past has seen performances from the likes of Björk, Blood Orange, Fleet Foxes and Mac Demarco.

Those looking to get out of the UK for Christmas can also to enjoy the winter season in one of Iceland's many hot springs.

The flights will be through the country's flag carrier Icelandair, with offers free changes to all bookings.

The airline is also open to all travellers, regardless of vaccination status.
