Leeds United’s final January addition saw them bring in Diogo Monteiro from Swiss side Servette. The 18-year-old defender will go into Michael Skubala’s Under-21s set-up, with hopes high that he will replicate the impact of Wilfried Gnonto who joined from fellow Swiss Super League outfit FC Zurich.
Monteiro’s arrival was the fourth of a window that also saw Leeds acquire the services of Weston McKennie, Max Wober and Georginio Rutter. And in a welcome seal of approval for manager Jesse Marsch, it was a signing that had the backing of the Leeds faithful - just.
Asked to give their views on six potential January arrivals via LeedsLive’s Swerve or Swoop tool, 53% of respondents voted to swoop for Monteiro.

That swoop figure was slightly higher for Nicolo Zaniolo who for so long looked set to swap Roma for Leeds. Labelled a traitor by supporters at the Stadio Olimpico, he would be welcomed at Elland Road, by 55% of fans, anyway.
Fans were a little more convinced by the merits of Club Brugge goalkeeper Senne Lammens, however, with 65% believing the club should swoop for the 20-year-old. It means should the club make moves for Lammens and Zaniolo in the summer, they would arrive with the support of the majority of the Leeds faithful.
And of the three players supporters chose to swerve, Lecce captain Morten Hjulmand was deemed the one with the least appeal. Just 35% backed a move for the Danish midfielder.
