Diogo Jota names £3m Liverpool striker who could 'take over Champions League'

Diogo Jota has tipped Liverpool team-mate Kaide Gordon for the very top in the UEFA Champions League.

Gordon made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup this season against Norwich City, going on to make three more appearances so far this season. He netted his first goal in the 4-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup and came off the bench a week later to make his Premier League bow in a 3-0 win over Brentford.

He arrived at Liverpool in February 2021 for an initial fee of £1m which could eventually rise to £3m with add-ons.

The 17-year-old has not played any part in the Reds' Champions League run to the semi-final but that hasn't stopped Jota from naming the winger as one to take the competition by storm in the near future. Asked by Playstation which Liverpool player will ‘take-over the Champions League’ over the next few seasons, Jota wasted no time in giving an answer.

“Kaide Gordon,” he answered without hesitation. “His future looks great.”

Gordan finds himself behind Jota, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the first-team. But with the futures of Salah, Mane and Firmino up in the air, a consistent place in Jurgen Klopp's side may arrive sooner rather than later. He hasn't been involved in a senior matchday squad since starting against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

But Klopp has high hopes for the talented winger and said that as long as he remains fit, he will be an option going forward. "Kaide is always in our minds because he is an exceptional talent. He had a little drop in form which is completely normal for his age," said Klopp before the game against the Gunners.

"He is an outstanding talent, he is always in my mind as long as he is fit. We will see where that leads. The Shrewsbury game helped a lot, he experienced proper adult football and he dealt with it. It's important for his development."
