Diogo Jota injury update confirmed as Liverpool prepare for Luis Diaz return

Luis Diaz is expected to return to action for Liverpool during their mid-season training camp in Dubai next month - but Diogo Jota will remain out until well into the New Year.

Diaz, who had been the Reds' most impressive outfield player during the early part of the season, has been absent since injuring his knee during the 3-2 Premier League defeat at Arsenal on October 9.

The winger returned to his native Colombia to continue his recovery at the headquarters of the national team before resuming running at the AXA Training Centre last week.

Jota, meanwhile, hasn't featured since suffering a serious calf injury towards the end of the 1-0 home win over Manchester City on October 16 that ruled him out of the forthcoming World Cup. The Portugal international had already been absent for almost two months after aggravating an existing hamstring problem at the start of pre-season.

And while Jota faces a battle to be considered for inclusion before February, Diaz is poised to feature in Liverpool's scheduled friendlies in the Middle East.

"Luis definitely, if everything goes to plan," said Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders when asked if either of the injured duo could play in Dubai. "We can’t wait to see him back, he is this player who smiles when he has the ball at his feet.

"Diogo will join us to continue his rehab. The conditions to train and recover in Dubai are just very, very good. A change of scenery is always a welcome factor when recovering from a long-term injury."

Liverpool will spend 12 days warm-weather training in the United Arab Emirates during the World Cup, with their domestic campaign on hold until the Carabao Cup fourth round tie at Manchester City on December 22.

The Reds will also take part in the Dubai Super Cup with games against French side Lyon on December 11 and Serie A champions AC Milan five days later.
