Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and other Liverpool injuries with potential return dates

On Friday afternoon Liverpool concluded their first pre-season tour in three years with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Following that win in Singapore, the Reds made their way back to Merseyside after their five-day stay in Southeast Asia, where they also played rivals Manchester United but were beaten 4-0.

For Jurgen Klopp, the tour marked the first part of Liverpool's pre-season preparations with a 37-man squad flying out for their first two games of the summer. However, the Reds' real preparations for the new campaign will be overseen in the coming weeks as they jet out to their favoured destination of Austria for a prolonged training camp, which will include games about RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg, the former in Germany.

It's expected that the squad that takes to Austria early next week will be significantly whittled down from the 37 players who took to Thailand and Singapore.

Of those who will be left behind, a handful will be the younger members of the squad, who had been included for the tour, as they return to Kirkby to link up with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Barry Lewtas' squads ahead of the new season. But Klopp could be forced to leave some more senior figures at home due to the injuries they have suffered during the early stages of the pre-season, with Diogo Jota most notably suffering a reoccurrence of the hamstring injury he picked up while on international duty last month.

Here's the latest update on the injured members of the Reds' squad

Diogo Jota

Without a doubt the most serious injury Liverpool have suffered during their pre-season preparations so far. After sustaining a hamstring injury in early June during Portugal's Nations League fixture with Switzerland, Jota only reported back for pre-season last weekend ahead of flying out to the Far East.

Tuesday's friendly with United seemed to come slightly too soon for the forward who only had a handful of training sessions under his belt. However, prior to Friday's game against Patrick Viera's men, Klopp revealed that Jota had suffered a suspected setback in his recovery and his hamstring injury had occurred.

“Diogo is a concern. With Diogo it’s a muscle again,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

After the game, Klopp provided further detail on Jota's situation stating that he would not be ready for the Community Shield tie with Manchester City on July 30, which places him in further doubt for the Reds' Premier League opener against Fulham on August 6.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

There was further injury trouble for the Liverpool manager during the victory over Palace as midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled up during the final moments of the first half, before punching the turf in anger.

Klopp confirmed that the 28-year-old had suffered a hamstring injury at the Singapore National Stadium and would undergo a scan once the Reds had touched down on Merseyside.

"Of course, it's very disappointing for us because Oxlade trained all the time really well since the pre-season started," said the Liverpool manager on Friday afternoon.

"It happened obviously with Ox in the past when it gets more intense and something can happen. Now, this is just a muscle thing and that's OK. We had worse situations, so I'm OK with it.

"I don't know exactly how long it will take but he will be back and then it's all fine. He is obviously a top-class player and he can help us."

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez missed the Reds' victory over Palace on Friday though Klopp insisted there was not too much concern surrounding the defender and it was in fact a precaution to sit him out of the fixture.

"Joe is just a precaution and not any kind of risk-taking is worth it," he said. "He is really good in the pre-season so far; he felt a little bit here and there so we said, ‘okay, then he is out'."

The 25-year-old was seen leaving training early on Thursday evening so it was no surprise to see him left out of the second pre-season fixture and, given that his absence was only due to a precaution, the defender could be in line for a return to training when his side flies out to Austria early next week.

Alisson Becker

Alisson Becker also missed Liverpool's final game in Asia as Adrian and youngster Harvey Davies were handed the opportunity to share the responsibilities between the sticks.

Klopp said he expects the Brazilian to recover from an abdominal injury in time to be in contention for the Community Shield tie against Pep Guardiola's men at the end of the month. However, more positively, the Liverpool manager revealed that Alisson would be able to continue non-goalie training during his time with the injury.

"Ali, he feels a muscle, abdominal," said Klopp. "It's nothing serious but, again, we prepare a full season. So he can train but just not like before, so he should not play in the moment. Not normal goalie training but he has a pre-season, so he doesn't lose time.

"But yeah, these kind of things happen. The boys have to travel a lot and train and you never know exactly. It's only little things, nothing serious but we have to be careful because the rest of the season is much longer than the start."

Melkamu Frauendorf and Tom Hill

After being handed cameos against Manchester United on Tuesday afternoon, academy duo Melkamu Frauendorf and Tom Hill were forced to sit out of Friday's game with minor injuries, according to Klopp.

Hill, 19, and Frauendorf, 18, had been included in Liverpool's 37-man squad for the pre-season tour but were ruled out of the final game, although it is suspected they have only minor injury problems.

“Few young boys [Hill and Frauendorf] with very little things," Klopp told LFCTV before kick-off. "We just don’t take any risks, but that’s how pre-season is.”
