Diogo Dalot reveals future transfer plans and details Manchester United aim

Diogo Dalot has admitted that he would one day like to return to former club Porto “if everything comes together”.

The right-back has been in tremendous form for Manchester United this season, in what is his fifth campaign as a Reds player. He arrived from boyhood club Porto in 2018 after coming through the ranks at the Portuguese giants.

After a tough few years at United, he secured a loan move to AC Milan in the 2021/22 season before finding favour under Ralf Rangnick last season. He’s now firmly first-choice right-back under Erik ten Hag with Sunday’s clash against Fulham set to be the first game he has missed all season after picking up a suspension.

Dalot scored an unfortunate own goal in Thursday’s 4-2 League Cup win over Aston Villa but after blanking last season has recorded a goal at the right end this term, also providing two assists.

The 23-year-old is enjoying his time under his new boss but left the door open for a potential return to Porto one day. “Would I like to return to FC Porto? Yes, it is a cycle that is not closed,” he told RTP, as per Record.

“If everything comes together, one day I will return to FC Porto.” Dalot will be travelling to Qatar next week after being named in Portugal’s World Cup squad - his first career finals.

He will be joined by Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who hit the headlines after saving two penalties in a row against Club Brugge in the Champions League last month on his club’s way to topping their group.

Despite Costa signing a new deal earlier this month, links with a potential United switch continue to be made with David de Gea’s deal expiring in the summer and uncertainty over whether he will have his 12-month extension clause triggered by the club.

Dalot is clearly a big admirer of Costa and gave him high praise. He said: “Diogo Costa is already one of the best in the world. He will be a reference, or even the reference, worldwide.”

Meanwhile, Dalot explained he felt he has had a good first half of the season with United and outlined what his personal aim is for when he returns after the World Cup.

He added: “I started the season well and I’m having a lot of playing time. I want to demonstrate that I have the capacity to remain at this level, I want to be even better.”
