Diogo Dalot identifies change in Manchester United spirit this season

Diogo Dalot has admitted his Manchester United defensive teammates have helped the dressing room spirit this season.

Only seven teams in the Premier League conceded more goals than United (57) last term and Erik ten Hag wanted to address that poor defensive record in the summer transfer window, so he signed Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.

Although there were doubts about whether Martinez could succeed due to his height, he's developed a formidable partnership with Raphael Varane and quickly become a fan favourite through his passionate, spirited performances.

Martinez has celebrated tackles and defensive clearances this season and his passion has been infectious in the dressing room.

Dalot was recently asked by United's in-house media about what he's learned from his defensive teammates and he discussed their energy. "We're all different as persons and humans, but as footballers, we have a lot to take from our teammates," Dalot said.

"They are experienced players, they have won a lot in football and you always have something to take on from them. The way they behave every single day, I think is an example and I try to take the best that I can from them.

"It's always positive for me to have teammates like them. I think this is the energy we want to build inside our team, the way that we defend our goal during the game, so we have to celebrate it [defence] in a way, obviously not exaggerating.

"Those [passionate] moments become natural for us when we're in the game and when we have the right attitude. It just shows we're feeling the game and we are connected with the fans as well, these small things can give them energy as well.

"We try to combine that with a good spirit between players and I think this is something that's come naturally."
