Diners excited as village pub makes 'fabulous' announcement over takeover

A pub has announced it will be changing its name after a takeover was completed earlier this year. The White Lion in Brinsley will now be called The Lion By Oliver's after being taken over by Oliver's Bar and Kitchen in nearby Eastwood.

The Lion, which is located in Hall Lane, announced the news to customers on its Facebook page on Friday night, April 8. They say more information will be shared in the coming weeks on what the pub will look like, however, they are looking to give it a more family-orientated approach. A lot of renovations are currently taking place at the venue.

The Lion said in a statement: "We hear the drums of Brinsley are beating and that the rumours are spreading so we are here to put your minds at rest! As of January this year The White Lion has been taken over by Oliver's and will be changed to "The Lion By Oliver's"!

"Our aim is to bring a fresh new village pub concept to the area with a family orientated approach. We have heavily been renovating the venue and have invested in changing the infrastructure, concept and design of the once loved White Lion. Over the next few weeks we will be releasing information on what is happening at "The Lion by Oliver's" with sneak peaks in what to expect alongside job adverts, menu postings and VIP access to our menu tasting evening!

"We look forward to welcoming you to our ever-growing family! See you soon, opening date and more to be announced in due course!"

Oliver's Pub and Kitchen, which is located in Nottingham Road, Eastwood, said in a Facebook post: "It’s been a tough few years but we are excited to expand our family even more! New or existing, we look forward to welcoming you to our second home!"

The reaction from customers and local people to the news was overwhelmingly positive on social media, with many taking the time out to wish the new owners luck in the weeks, months and years ahead.

One customer wrote: "Fabulous news - good luck in your new venture." Another wrote: "Fabulous, good luck in your new venture. What a great named pub for the Oliver family to be taking on too."

"Bloody fantastic news," another customer said. "About time someone injected some life into the place! Good luck!" One Facebook user commented that the takeover is "great news for Brinsley".
