Tyson Fury’s camp has hit back at Dillian Whyte’s claim that his knockout defeat in their heavyweight title fight was “illegal”.
The Body Snatcher believes he was unfairly pushed to the canvas after suffering a devastating uppercut to his chin during the sixth round at Wembley, leaving him unable to continue.
But Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, has told Whyte that he was lucky to receive a push and not another blow to the head from the WBC champion.
“As he [punched] him, he was gone, he was out on his feet,” said Warren on talkSPORT.
“Tyson just pushed him back a bit because he was falling forward. It’s better that he pushed him than hit him because he would have never gotten up.
“When he got up, he didn’t know where he was. The referee did the correct thing and stopped the fight and saved him from further punishment. There should be no complaints on that. Let’s not even go there with that.”
The premise of Whyte’s claim for a rematch rested on the assumption that Fury won the fight illegally, and with either retirement or a mouthwatering unification bout now on the cards, Warren was short and sharp when discussing the concept.
“What for? Based upon what?” he said of a rematch.
“Listen, when I was really young I was asking to take Julia Roberts out, it never happened. Where do you want to go with it?
“It’s not even debatable. It’s not going to happen, Dillian. You’ve got to fight your way back into contention and good luck to you doing that.”
