Digital agency whyaye moves to new head office after workforce trebles in a year

Growing digital agency whyaye has expanded into new offices after trebling its headcount last year.

The Newcastle digital transformation specialist has moved into The Toffee Factory in Ouseburn after seeing revenue grow 50% to more than £4m in 2021, while also growing its staff numbers from 22 in December 2020 to over 60 by the end of last year.

The growth was driven by 14 new client wins in 2021 across the financial services, technology and pharmaceutical sectors.

Founded by Maureen Robson Norman, Anna Bisset and Lisa Smith, who met while working on a Royal Bank of Scotland project in 2014, whyaye was set up in 2019 to bring a new approach to the UK consultancy landscape.

Its UK-wide team has experience of delivering IT transformation, business change and operational resilience programmes for major global financial services institutions, fast moving consumer goods organisations and multinational technology companies.

The founders said whyaye’s new headquarters at The Toffee Factory will provide a hub for its current team and provide space for future expansion.

The company, which moved to its new base from nearby Hoults Yard, plans to expand its team this year, and recently took on two apprentice software developers, as part of its commitment to developing tech talent in North East.

CEO Maureen Robson Norman said: “I am very proud of what we achieved in 2021 and of how we have responded to the challenges of the pandemic.

“It’s fantastic to see our team growing to such a degree and to be supporting so many new clients across their digital transformation programmes.

“We have attracted business change, operational resilience, risk management and software specialists from across the UK to the whyaye family, and it’s exciting to be welcoming them to The Toffee Factory, just a stone’s throw from where I grew up in Walker.

“Our new offices provide a hub for collaboration and we pride ourselves on creating a dynamic working environment which gives everyone who works with us an opportunity to develop and grow.”

Lisa Tolan, centre manager of The Toffee Factory, added: “We are delighted to welcome whyaye to the building, there is a real energy around this rapidly expanding company.

“The team have quickly settled into their new home - making the most of the immediate area and building relationships with the other creative and digital firms which make Toffee such an exciting workspace. Their growth, particularly through the pandemic has been phenomenal and there’s no sign of that slowing down.”
