Diego Simeone offers Edu potential transfer opportunity as interest grows in Arsenal defender

Arsenal have a lot of players that need to be moved on this summer. With an outlay on incomings having the potential to supersede that of the spend in the previous summer window, the Gunners could use as many incoming funds as possible.

The list could reach as many as nine for permanent exits and loans for Arsenal. Those facing the end of their careers with the club are Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Pablo Mari, Bernd Leno, Alex Runarsson, Reiss Nelson, Nicolas Pepe and Lucas Torreira.

However, there remain some players whose futures could still be with the club, but a loan will benefit their short-term goals. Nuno Tavares and Auston Trusty are the primary pair, with the latter having only just joined in January, but the move is seen as a pathway to European football.

From the expected departures, it looked almost certain that Bellerin would make the switch back to Real Betis. The Spaniard moved to Seville and helped Los Verdiblancos to a Copa del Rey title and qualification for the Europa League.

However, the club are in financial trouble and need to sell before they can commit funds towards buying Bellerin. Arsenal remain hopeful of getting a transfer fee for the player.

Although, the interest in Bellerin is no longer restricted to Betis, with a number of teams keeping an eye on the situation. Roma in Italy are one of those teams, but now a La Liga rival of Betis have come forward in Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal will be thankful for the increase in the number of clubs vying for the potential signature of Bellerin. For some time, technical director Edu has struggled to find clubs willing to spend money on the club’s surplus players.

The more teams that come forward will only help the Gunners to increase the potential sale price for Bellerin. Arsenal have again been linked with a potential move for Atleti forward Joao Felix too. This brings theory about a potential player-plus-cash swap.

That said, a move for Felix seems unlikely, with Arsenal pushing to complete deals for Gabriel Jesus and Raphinha as priorities at the moment. A straight sale of Bellerin in the case of Atletico appears the most likely outcome of the situation at the moment.

Potential figures for the player could reach €10m (£8.6m), with several reports claiming this is the asking price of Arsenal. However, should several teams come forward in a bid to sign Bellerin, perhaps this could soon rise.

The reputation of Arsenal’s sales department has always been of consistent scrutiny amongst the fan base. A good sale of Bellerin would go some way to helping to change the viewing of the club in this regard.
