Diego Simeone aims dig at Renan Lodi after Nottingham Forest transfer decision

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has spoken about Renan Lodi's decision to join Nottingham Forest.

The 24-year-old has been confirmed as Forest's 18th signing this summer on a season-long loan deal.

The experienced defender has played in countless Champions League games, as part of his 118 outings for the La Liga side. Facing competition in the defensive department at the Wanda Metropolitano was key for him to seek a move to boost his chances of making the World Cup squad for Brazil.

Speaking about Lodi's decision to join the Reds, Simeone said: "Renan has the need to play, to have a lot of minutes in this situation that has come up because of the World Cup. He has gone to look for that where he believes he can get them.

"I am not committed to anyone, there is an enormous competition in that area. Some like to compete and others prefer to go to other teams in order to have those minutes that gets them closer to being able to go to the World Cup."

The Argentine also added that Lodi's move makes sense from a financial perspective. "It’s not just me that is uncomfortable, there are a lot of teams that are coexisting with the economic needs in every club," he said.

"I'm grateful for his work, his behaviour, always being willing to help wherever he was needed, as a starter or coming on in the second half. He has always done so in committed manner and we have always been grateful."
